We Insist!: Jazz Speaks Out is a multi-part series exploring the impact of jazz music on social change movements and African-American history and culture. The series features conversations with musicians, authors and educators who have studied the music and its impact, experienced it first hand and, in some cases, created it. Guests include: Dr. Robin D. G. Kelly, professor of history at USC; Grammy-winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard; saxophonist Marcus Strickland; NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston and others. The music featured in the series includes: Max Roach's "We Insist" Miles Davis' "Jack Johnson" Randy Weston Uhuru Afrika "Uhuru Afrika" John Coltrane's "Alabama" Sonny Rollins' "Freedom Suite" and other selections from Jazz greats.

Listeners have a chance to ask questions of Newark Mayor Cory Booker! Newark Today, a live call-in talk show hosted by anchor/reporter Andrew Meyer. It airs once a month, usually on the second Thursday of the month at 8pm.

One of the world's preeminent jazz venues, the Village Vanguard has presented nearly all of the greatest musicians in jazz since 1957. Renowned for its rich history and great acoustics, over 100 commercial albums have been recorded within the triangle-shaped basement room in New York's Greenwich Village.
Live At The Village Vanguard presents live music from the legendary club. WBGO's Josh Jackson hosts all the concerts; you can also read his take on the events on WBGO's blog.

SportsJam takes a unique peak into the sports world as host Doug Doyle chats with players, coaches, owners, broadcasters, fans and jazz musicians. "Newark has become a sports hotbed with Prudential Center as the new home for Devils hockey, Nets and Seton Hall basektball" says Doyle. SportsJam guests like Yankees great Bernie Williams, tap dancer Savion Glover,trumpeter Jon Faddis, saxophonist Don Braden and basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar all agree there's a strong connection between jazz and sports. Doyle hopes the podcast draws people from of all walks of life to WBGO.
