Dj Kenny Podcast
....the styles of music on this show change more than the weather these days--but one thing this show definitely aims to do is deconstruct the idea of "world music"-- depending on where you are, any music can be from "some far off distant land" ... the whole practice of categorizing music.. especially as "world music" is pretty ridiculous considering how connected the world has become.. (back in the 50s, they had exotic "crazes"-- like the fanaticism for hawaiian slack key guitar, polka, tango, and rhumba.. always patronizing these styles and packaging them with this wild, primitive "other-ness" - this was the tradition, just look through any stack of lps from the early 60s and you'll see international music packaged for an audience.. of wide eyed tourists.. but today we are much more internationally aware, the average person is likely to have new music from 20 different countries on their ipod) If you consider modern genres like rock, electronica, club/dance music, reggae, salsa, rap, soul--- they're international genres... hearing the variations in the musical forms from place to place is what makes this show so thrilling for me to produce every week... of course, each culture has it's own voice and its own unique language - and these differences are important to recognize, and respect, and preserve, by all means... but there are many similarities between cultures as well... music is the universal language.. and it speaks in a way that words never could.. (the show title is also inspired by a brilliant track by the same name on the Clash's "Sandinista" album-- the first record I ever owned.. check it out... ) "If Music Could Talk" 7-9pm EST Sundays on WRIR- www.wrir.org, and locally on 97.3FM ... check the blog for more details and a huge podcast archive going back about 3 years!! http://turquoisekid.blogspot.com thanks to www.radio4all.net for hosting the show podcasts and thanks to WRIR... www.wrir.org for being Richmond's one and only independent radio station... people of the world--- please support independent media !!!

About Soulfood
The Soulfood radio show goes out on New Style Radio every week between Saturday midnight and 2am Sunday morning. The show is brought to you by Damien Deighan & DJ Ayo and features the best in new & current Soul, Funk & House music. You can access the show in the Birmingham area on 98.7 fm or via the web at www.newstyleradio.co.uk
On the Soulfood show you will hear music from right across the black music spectrum. On the first hour of the show expect to hear true variety including Nu Soul, funk, Soulful R & B/Hip-Hop and the more leftfield sounds of Broken Beat & Nu Jazz. The second hour is all about house music as we each take it in turns to lay down a 25 minute mix of our favourite current Deep & Soulful House tunes. The emphasis is mainly on newer music with a classic or two thrown in for good measure.
So inject some proper soul into your weekend and come and join us on New Style Radio for some serious Soulfood!
Just a final note to say that the pre-podcast archive of the shows can be found at:

DJ Mal in the Mix - House Classics
1. January 18, 2009 Cacophony, a mainstream tribal set that should resonate well with all the hot shirtless men.
2. September 28, 2008 A deep, dark, tech infused first quarter leads to a harder more progressive tribal end.
3. May 4th 2008 THE AFTER,
A gritty, deep, dark, hard, creepy, tribal & electro set. This is New York after-hours.
4. June 6th 2007 Sunset GROOVE, named after the hippest party of 2006 (that sadly didn't last). This set is a curious mixture of old and new, deep and piano, with an elctro edge.
5. February 14th, 2007 The Sound of SIN A tribal & progressive set, including many tracks that moved the 1500 plus audience at SIN 3 on Feb. 10th in Austin, TX. Fans of mixing will LUV the 3.5 minute transition from track 8 to 9.
6. December 30, 2006; SOUL IN THE CITY. A primarily proper house set, including some of the biggest tracks of 2006 and some older classics. Recorded at Sunset Studios in Austin TX.
7. November 23, 2006; **SONIC** A progressive and tribal set recorded live at Sunset Studios ATX. This recording is BIG ROOM and aches to be played at high volume to truly appreciate it's energy. DJ B~ uses PEAK for capturing studio sets.
8. October 15, 2006; ((VIBE)) A soulful proper HOUSE set recorded live at Sunset GROOVE.
