Report from the Aleutians is the first of three important movies made by filmmaker John Huston during WWII. Assigned to the Signal Corps in 1942, Huston was sent to Adak in the remote Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska. There, Huston filmed the bitter campaign to oust Japanese forces from Kiska, which they seized during the offensive that led to the Battle of Midway.
Unlike Midway, where America dealt Japan a devastating blow, the battle of the Aleutians was one of attrition. As a result, Huston's portrait focuses on the day-to-day activities of ordinary G.I. Joes, who faced difficult duty in a cold wasteland with courage, resourcefulness, and character. Foremost among these were the pilots and crews who flew monotonous patrols in difficult weather and who experienced real terror while flying bombing raids over Japanese positions. Huston's moving portrait was criticized within the War Department for its tone, but nevertheless received an Oscar nomination in 1944.

History Rediscovered: Submarines at War features four rare WWII-era documentary films, including one in full color, about submarines and the "silent service" during World War II. In Now It Can Be Told, you'll witness the dramatic true story of the capture of a German U-boat on the high seas. Originally released in 1943, The Battle of Britain represents the fourth movie in Frank Capra's epic ""Why We Fight"" documentary series. This film traces the fate of the British during the dark days of ""The Blitz."" It is a portrait of the desperate, but ultimately successful struggle to prevent a Nazi invasion of England.
The film begins after the fall of France. With their army in shambles, the British have to rely on their naval and air forces to stave off invasion. These prove to be formidable adversaries, as does Prime Minister Winston Churchill. His stoic attitude and resolve keep the nation focused on victory. Throughout ""The Blitz"" the population never wavers.
This presentation of The Battle of Britain also includes two rare wartime Ministry of Information shorts. ""V-1"" shows the ""buzz bomb"" attacks, while ""Fighter Pilot"" profiles the men about whom Churchill famously said ""Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.

The Memphis Belle features the most famous documentary to emerge from WWII and three other films in vivid high definition. Shot in 1943, The Memphis Belle was helmed by Academy Award™ winning director William Wyler. It chronicles the 25th and final combat mission of a B-17 crew. A moving and real portrait of courage, it was endorsed by President Franklin Roosevelt, and shown throughout the United States on his order. The Secret Life of Adolf Hitler was one of the first post-WWII documentary films to profile the reviled German dictator. Featuring footage shot by the Nazis and Eva Braun's 16mm home movies, the program revealed first-ever glimpses into the private life of one of history's most ruthless despots. It was also among the first to feature interviews with members of Hitler's inner circle. These include Hitler's only full sibling Paula Hitler, his personal adjutant Julius Schaub, his pilot Hans Bauer, and his chauffer Eric Kempka. The Secret Life of Adolf Hitler may lack modern production values but it is both revealing and historically important. Fifty years after its original release it remains one of the more audacious portraits of one of the 20th Century's madmen.
