Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. ~ In this podcast, we focus on the topics of Thelema, Aleister Crowley, and Ordo Templi Orientis while also touching upon the subjects of magick, yoga, and initiation. The podcast includes lectures, music, interviews, discussions, and readings of the Holy Books of Thelema and other important texts written by Aleister Crowley. Our mission is to spread awareness of the Law of Thelema, the writings of Aleister Crowley, and Ordo Templi Orientis. Speech in the Silence is also a creative outlet for Thelemites, and we encourage listener feedback and participation. ~ The Law of Thelema is revealed in Liber AL vel Legis, also known as The Book of the Law. This Law can be summarized in three verses from the Book: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." ~ "Love is the law, love under will." ~ "There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt." ~ Practitioners of Thelema are called Thelemites. Thelemites work towards the discovery and accomplishment of their True Will, the innermost nature of the individual. ~ The Law of Thelema grants us ultimate personal freedom, but also demands that we each use that freedom to do our True Will and nothing else. As it is written in The Book of the Law: "... thou hast no right but to do thy will. Do that, and no other shall say nay." ~ Respecting the divine and solar nature of every human being means that Thelemites mind their own business and do not interfere in the wills of others -- except in cases of tyranny and oppression. As the Book of the Law says "Every man and every woman is a star." ~ Aleister Crowley expands on this idea in his Extenuation: "Every Star has its own Nature, which is 'Right' for it. We are not to be missionaries, with ideal standards of dress and morals, and such hard ideas. We are to do what we Will, and leave others to do what they Will. We are infinitely tolerant, save of intolerance." ~ Aleister Crowley, also called The Master Therion and The Great Beast 666, is the Prophet of the Law of Thelema. In 1904 e.v., Crowley received the Book of the Law in a revelation while on honeymoon with his wife, Rose, in Cairo, Egypt. The reception of this Book trumpeted the beginning of the New Aeon of the Crowned and Conquering Child, where we can observe the decay of the idea of sin; the growth of innocence, self-confidence, and amorality; the increasing prevalence of bisexuality and androgyny; the childlike confidence in technological and cultural progress; and the acceptance of the individual as the fundamental unit of society. ~ The ARARITA San Diego Thelema Group
ARARITA is a group of Thelemites dedicated to the promulgation of the Law of Thelema in San Diego, California. We hold regular readings, discussions, and classes on Thelema, Magick, Yoga, and Hermetic Science. Find our calendar of events on our website: http://ararita.org ~ Love is the law, love under will.
Speech in the Silence
Kant wrote extensively on all major topics of intellectual interest. In terms of the
publication of major texts his most prolific period was 1781 to 1790.
In the domains of epistemology and metaphysics he published the Critique of Pure
Reason in 1781, with a second edition in 1787. In the domain of ethics he published
the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals in 1785 and the Critique of Practical
Reason in 1788. In the domain of asthetics he presented his theory in 1790 in the form
of the Critique of Judgment.
As a form of shorthand the three Critiques are known as the First, Second, and Third,
respectively.
In the first Critique Kant deals with how we come to understand our world; in the
second Critique he deals with practical reason and how we act in our world; and in the
third Critique he attempts to show a systematic connection between the first two. So,
the first deals with how we think about our sensible world, the second deals with how
we act in it, and the third supplies a link between the two in terms of felt judgement.
In the first he draws together our inner experience with our necessary perception of an
external world. He combines perception and understanding through the application of
the productive imagination in such a way as to make judgements possible. He links the
First and the Third Critiques by arguing that aesthetic judgments, that is, judgements
about what is beautiful or sublime, derive from our determination to impose order on
our sensory experience. Thus, aesthetics is just like mathematics: it attempts to find
unity in experience.
So, each of the Critiques is concerned with judgement, judgements of reason, moral
judgements, and aesthetic judgements.
Kant's Epistemology 2008
In this podiobook: "Heretics," a series of essays by Gilbert Keith Chesterton. First published in 1905. Read by David "Grizzly" Smith.Chesterton had a sense of humor, had a sense of drama, and had sense. He was a man of strong opinions, and quite willing to argue vehemently for his own opinions, even with his friends -- and they remained his friends -- like George Bernard Shaw and Rudyard Kipling. Seems to me that is hard to find anymore. He wrote prolifically. He wrote humor. He wrote mystery novels, the Father Brown mysteries in particular. But he also wrote his opinions, his religious opinions and his opinions about religion."Heretics" is a book about religion and politics, theory and fact, morals and efficiency. What I most admire about "Heretics," written a bit over a century ago, is that his arguments are exceptional, and that so many of them are still quite recognizably true. He argues that the weakening and devaluing of religion has also weakened and devalued heresy. He argues that people should be able to speak freely -- but that freedom of speech has actually decreased people's willingness to speak about important issues. And so much more. The one disclaimer I feel I must offer is that this book was "timely." Some of the people and events he mentions will be familiar. Many other people and events would have been familiar to you, if you'd lived in England at the beginning of the last century. The ideas he opposes, however, are either regaining popularity, or have never lost it. And his arguments are as valid and wise now as they were.In some ways, he was ahead of his time. You may disagree with him, but you can't deny his intelligence and wisdom. This isn't the book you might expect it to be. I think you'll enjoy it, and maybe even learn something. Even if you disagree.Book Theme: "Thaxted," written by Gustav Holst, arranged by Kevin MacLeod

This is a story about belief--in God, sexual ethics, morals, political ideologies--told through two friends’ struggle to make sense of life’s triumphs and tragedies, which they interpret through very different religious filters. Ian wants answers his faith can’t provide, so he abandons traditional religion, turning instead to science and reason. Bill has become a devoted Christian who sees the bountiful harvest that can be achieved through faith. Only when a pair of shocking revelations test the friendship, and shatter their worldviews with deadly consequences, do they stumble upon a genuine secret of the universe.
A Secret of the Universe: A Story of Love, Loss, and the Discovery of an Eternal Truth
Dorian Gray, a young man of wealth and stature in late 1800's London, meets Lord Henry Wotton while posing for a portrait by his friend Basil Hallward. Once the painting is complete, Dorian realizes that it will always be young and attractive, while he will be forced to age and wither with the years. Carelessly, he wishes the opposite were true. What happens is a treatise on morals, self-indulgence and how crucial personal responsibility is towards one's self. (Summary by John Gonzalez)

This collection of fantasy stories was originally serialized in regional newspapers, prior to being published as a complete volume. The stories, as critics have noted, lack the high-fantasy aspect of the best of Baum's work, in Oz or out. With ironic or nonsensical morals attached to their ends, their tone is more satirical, glib, and tongue-in-cheek than is usual in children's stories; the serialization in newspapers for adult readers was appropriate for the materials. (Introduction by Wikipedia and Matthew Reece)
American Fairy Tales by Baum, L. Frank
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall , the second and final novel by Anne Brontë, is concerned with the story of a woman who leaves her abusive, dissolute husband, and who must then support herself and her young son. Originally published in June of 1848, it challenged the prevailing morals of the time; a critic went so far as to pronounce it "utterly unfit to be put into the hands of girls." It is considered to be one of the first feminist novels. (Summary from Wikipedia)
