Report from the Aleutians is the first of three important movies made by filmmaker John Huston during WWII. Assigned to the Signal Corps in 1942, Huston was sent to Adak in the remote Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska. There, Huston filmed the bitter campaign to oust Japanese forces from Kiska, which they seized during the offensive that led to the Battle of Midway.
Unlike Midway, where America dealt Japan a devastating blow, the battle of the Aleutians was one of attrition. As a result, Huston's portrait focuses on the day-to-day activities of ordinary G.I. Joes, who faced difficult duty in a cold wasteland with courage, resourcefulness, and character. Foremost among these were the pilots and crews who flew monotonous patrols in difficult weather and who experienced real terror while flying bombing raids over Japanese positions. Huston's moving portrait was criticized within the War Department for its tone, but nevertheless received an Oscar nomination in 1944.

Moulin Rouge (1952)
John Huston's acclaimed documentary shows the struggle of American forces to dislodge the Japanese from the island of Kiska. Huston's portrait of ordinary G.I. Joes courageously facing opposition earned him an Oscar nomination in 1944.

John Huston's 1956 Moby Dick remains admirably faithful to its source. Though slightly intimidated by the sermon delivered by Father Mapple (Orson Welles in a brilliant one-take cameo), who warns that those who challenge the sea are in danger of losing their souls, Ishmael nonetheless signs on to the Pequod, a whaling ship captained by the brooding, one-legged Ahab (Gregory Peck). In an obsessive pursuit of Moby Dick, the great white whale to whom he lost his leg, Ahab's dementia spreads throughout the crew members, who maniacally join their captain in his final, fatal attack upon the elusive, enigmatic Moby Dick.

The Man Who Would Be King tells the story of two British adventurers in British India who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan. It was inspired by the exploits of James Brooke, an Englishman who became the "white Raja" of Sarawak in Borneo, and by the travels of American adventurer Josiah Harlan, who claimed the title Prince of Ghor.
The story was first published in The Phantom Rickshaw and other Tales (Volume Five of the Indian Railway Library, published by A H Wheeler & Co of Allahabad in 1888). It also appeared in Wee Willie Winkie and Other Stories in 1895, and in numerous later editions of that collection.
It is the basis for John Huston’s 1975 film of the same name, starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine as the "kings", and Christopher Plummer as Kipling.
